"My name is Steve. My journey with the Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps (FLVAC) began in 1992 when I was just 16 years old. Inspired by a close friend’s father, a long-time member of FLVAC at the time, I took my first steps toward becoming an EMT. I started as a “youth squad member,” riding alongside him and learning the essentials of patient care, building rapport, and the deep responsibility that comes with serving the community. The experiences I had during those early years left a lasting impact on me. From moments of joy to the most difficult calls,

every shift helped shape who I am today. The camaraderie, the life lessons, and the shared mission of service formed bonds that truly felt like family—many of whom remain involved with the Corps to this day.Volunteering with FLVAC sparked a broader commitment to public service, leading me to become a volunteer firefighter and eventually a Police Officer. The training and perspective I gained here prepared me for both emergency situations and life itself. In 2000, I stepped away from FLVAC due to personal commitments, but the connection never faded. In 2018, I returned as an Affiliate Member, reuniting with old friends and once again embracing the opportunity to help others.Like many of my fellow members, I can honestly say FLVAC has given me lifelong friendships and invaluable lessons. If you are willing to dedicate your time, this organization offers a truly rewarding experience."
